Starting from the early hours of the Australian Celtic Festival the Celtic Country Yard Dog Championships kicks off with the Glen Innes Veterinary Hospital Maiden. This event is for dogs who have never won at a trial and is a great experience for young dogs in developing the many skills it takes to be a working dog. After the Maiden final finishes at around midday the Dom's Diesel Novice begins! Each level of course is harder, the novice is for dogs who have already won a maiden trial. You won't want to miss the Roberts & Morrow Open which is for dogs who have won two Novice trials, these dogs are the best of the best and you will see amazing skills displayed by the working dogs and their owners! The Australian Kelpie was originally the progeny of special line bred strains of Collies from Britain, the Kelpie you see today is the result of hundreds of years of line breeding in Australia, you may not see a Kelpie outside of Australia however they are some of the best and smartest working dogs you will find in the world! Another dog you may see at the trial is the Border Collie which originated from the Border Counties of Scotland around 350 years ago and are known for their gentle herding skills! With such history, breeding and the time involved in creating working dogs you can see why this years action can not be missed!
